It’s shocking, almost. Olympic Stadiums traditionally are one of the last things to be finished, with construction continuing sometimes after the Opening Ceremonies. But the London 2012 has done a great job, getting the London Olympic Stadium completed on time and under budget!
You have until April 26 at midnight to have an application in at the official London2012.com website if you live in the UK or Europe. If you live elsewhere, you have to get your tickets through your country’s Olympic Committee (or through their official reseller). To see a list of all official resellers, view this page at London2012. I can’t stress this enough – at this point, only get tickets through an official channel. They are they only ones that will have legal tickets!
The news came today that Iran announced an objection to the logo for the 2012 London Olympics, contending it is racist because it resembles the word “Zion” and warned of a possible boycott of the Games. It seems unlikely that Iran would actually boycott over this matter, and hopefully they don’t. It’d nice if we could put all our religious and political garbage aside and just enjoy the games.
According to the latest from the National Accounting Office (NAO), all the various construction projects are on time, with the exception being the Aquatics Center and parts of the Athletes Village. The construction timeline has slipped by two months on the Aquatics Center, mostly due to the wave-shaped roof.
Hopefully things get done in time. I’d hate to see the events take place on the Thames.
It’s finally been officially announced by the London 2012 Olympics organizers that tickets for the London Olympics will go on sale on Tuesday March 15, 2011. Also, the only way to get tickets will be via your local National Olympic Committee or their appointed Authorized Ticket Reseller. More details will be released in February, but in the meantime circle your calendars and save your money!
According to London Olympics organizers, roughly 2 million people have registered to buy tickets to the London Olympics when they go on sale. Tickets will go on sale in March, and range in price from $31 to a staggering $3105. Are you in line yet? The only place to sign up is on the London 2012 website here!
In what looks like a freezing-cold ceremony, UK Prime Minister David Cameron (assisted by local school children) flipped the switch to light up the nearly completed stadium in Stratford, east London.
The temperature was so low that it took several minutes for the lights to come on to full power!
Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant was quoted as saying: “You guys want me in London. I am there and I’m ready to defend. And then when you guys need me to put some points on the board, I’ll do that, too.”
Coupled with the comments by LeBron James and Dwight Howard, it looks like USA Basketball is reloading for the defense of their 2008 Gold Medal from Beijing.
Finally! When completed the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower will be 115m tall, and will be a fantastic re-imagining of the five Olympic rings. Situated in the Olympic Park, it will be visible from all over the area, and visitors will be able to go inside the tower up to an observation deck and take in views of the city.
ESPN just wrote a great article about the London Olympic Games progress, now that we’re just two years away. It sounds like things are coming along about as smoothly as can be expected! Check out the article for the full scoop!
